I am a tenured associate professor at the Department of Finance, NUS Business School, National University of Singapore since June 2010.
My research and teaching expertise is in the areas of succession of family businesses, wealth management, family office, corporate governance, corporate finance, gender diversity, and startup finance.
I have published in the world’s leading academic journals including the Journal of Financial Economics, Review of Financial Studies, Journal of Financial and Quantitative Analysis, and Review of Finance. My research on succession was featured in global media such as the Financial Times, Wall Street Journal, Economist, Bloomberg, Nikkei, Business Times and Strait Times (Singapore).
I have been invited as a visiting scholar at New York University, Hanken University (Finland), Stockholm School Economics, Waseda University, Development Bank of Japan, and the World Bank (Washington D.C.). Most recently, I have spent my sabbatical year at the Imperial College London (April 2024 - Febuary 2025) and London Business School (March - April 2025).

Throughout my career, I have consistently engaged with industry. Notably, I was invited to contribute academic perspectives on ESG disclosure principles to the Review of the G20/OECD Principles of Corporate Governance (2022), held at the OECD in Paris, France.
I have frequently provided interviews to Singapore and international media outlets, namely the Business Times, Strait Times, and Bloomberg. In 2025, I co-authored a white paper, “Chart Your Family Legacy: Asia’s Wealth Transfer in a New Era,” with UOB and Boston Consulting Group.
Before joining NUS in Singapore I enjoyed almost 20 years in Tokyo. I was Professor at the Institute of Economic Research of Hitotsubashi University. I earned my Ph.D. degree in Economics at Hitotsubashi University, supported by prestigious scholarships from the Japanese Ministry of Education (Monbusho) and the Ito-En Foundation.
